All participants on our singer mailing list receive a letter which outlines the program of the concert, gives specific rehearsal dates and details, and outlines attendance policies. This letter will be mailed in August. Feel free to print it and share!

What do all of these events have in common, you may be asking? Well, in 1954, Asbury United
Methodist Church was planning an organ dedication and these events were taking place simultaneously
or shortly thereafter. The director of the Asbury Choir invited neighboring church choir singers to join
and after performing Haydn’s “The Creation” for 2 years in a row, Northern Choral Society was born.
For many years NCS performed 2 concerts annually, so although it is hard to say how many concerts the
group has performed, it is quite an impressive history. This year we celebrate 70 seasons of concerts,
because only a global pandemic kept us quiet (momentarily).
Carl and I are very excited to start rehearsals soon!
1. RECRUIT
Please ask your friends to try singing with NCS. If someone is unsure, I am always happy to meet with
them to help them decide if they will be successful in our group. Not all of our singers read music, but
they have a good ear for matching pitches and learning the parts. It is essential that our singers sing in
the correct octave and can match the pitches of the singers around them. Know any kids? Ask them to
sing with Marietta! Maybe their parents will join us too! Again this year there is no singer fee.
2. FUNDRAISE
This organization runs on donations and fundraisers. Please be ready to help in some way; everyone is
welcome to obtain sponsorships through local businesses. They will love seeing their names splashed in
our program. If you have other ideas to help fund our organization, please reach out to me or any
member of the Board. The Clipper Inn is sponsoring a fundraising dinner again this year on October 21.
I would like to get one new piece (see program on back), so if you would like to contribute to that, please
let me know ASAP. Thank you!
3. PLAN
Rehearsals start September 27 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church. Our Youth Choir will be
directed by Marietta Kitto and will start rehearsals on September 27th from 2:00-3:30pm. Singers can
be in grades 2-8. We need faithful attendance from everyone involved. I understand that some things
are out of our control, but please plan ahead now to put NCS rehearsal as a priority in your calendar.
